Savannah P Obituary, – The family of a 12-year-old girl, identified as Savannah P. in court documents, who tragically lost her life in a jet ski accident in Mission Bay last year, has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the operator of the watercraft, as well as the city and county of San Diego, among others.
The incident occurred on July 29, 2023, when the young victim was on a paddle board in the De Anza Cove area and was struck by the jet ski at approximately 2 p.m. Despite being rushed to the hospital, she succumbed to her injuries, which included severe head trauma caused by the impact.
The lawsuit, filed in San Diego Superior Court by the family, not only holds the alleged jet ski operator, Arsanyous Refat Ghaly, responsible but also points fingers at the city lifeguards for allowing Ghaly to operate the watercraft at an excessive speed and in an uncontrolled manner towards the victim.
According to the complaint, lifeguards had witnessed Ghaly and his friends operating jet skis at high speeds and had cautioned them to slow down. However, the lawsuit alleges that no further action was taken to monitor their activities, and within a span of less than 10 minutes, the tragic accident occurred.
The complaint further claims that the lifeguards and other personnel responsible for ensuring the safety of Mission Bay were inadequately trained and supervised.
In addition to Ghaly, the city, and the county, the lawsuit names several others as defendants, including the individuals who allegedly rented out the jet ski to Ghaly and his friends. The complaint asserts that the jet ski was unlawfully provided to them, as they did not possess the required California Boater’s cards, which are mandatory for operating motorized vessels in the water.
Furthermore, the complaint highlights the involvement of the online platform OfferUp, which facilitated the rental of the jet ski. OfferUp is also listed as a defendant for allegedly enabling the unlawful, unlicensed, and potentially hazardous use of rental equipment by its users. In a heartfelt statement, the grieving family expressed, “Our daughter was a vibrant and healthy 12-year-old who cherished her family, friends, soccer, and had big dreams for her future.
