Ryan Shae Pettigrew Obituary, Death: Beloved Midland, TX Resident Died on May 10
Ryan Shae Pettigrew, known to many as “Shae,” passed away on May 10, 2024, at the age of 42. He was a beloved resident of Midland, Texas, and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. A viewing will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Nalley-Pickle and Welch Funeral Home, open to anyone who wishes to pay their respects.
Shae was born on March 7, 1982, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and was adopted by Kit and Ann Pettigrew when he was just nine days old. He was raised in Dora, New Mexico, where he completed his education from first to twelfth grade. Shae’s love for agriculture and animals began at a young age, and he started showing pigs at the age of nine in 1991. His father, Kit, was the agricultural instructor, and Shae joined 4-H to participate in contests and fairs. He went on to win the title of Grand Champion at the New Mexico State Fair with one pig in 1991, and again won the pig show at the Roosevelt County Fair in 1998.
In addition to his passion for showing pigs, Shae was also an accomplished dairy judger. In 1996, as a freshman in high school, he participated in the Dairy Judging team, with his father as his agricultural instructor. They won second place in the State Judging competition, and due to the first-place team being unable to attend the Nationals, Shae’s team was invited to participate in their place. They went on to win second place in the nation, with Shae finishing third as an individual. This achievement earned them an invitation to participate in the World Judging competition in Edinburgh, Scotland.
A funeral service will be held at Wheeler Mortuary in Portales, New Mexico on Monday, May 20, 2024, at 10:00 a.m., with Matt Rush serving as the officiant. The burial will follow at Kenna Cemetery. A Celebration of Life Party will be held at a later date to honor all of Shae’s favorite things, including food, music, and dancing.
Shae’s passing leaves a void in the lives of those who knew him, but his memory will continue to inspire and motivate others. His legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched, and his impact on the agricultural community will be remembered for years to come.
We will miss Shae’s bright smile, his infectious laughter, and his unwavering optimism. He was a source of strength and inspiration for his family, friends, and colleagues, and his passing has left a void that can never be filled. However, his memory will continue to inspire and motivate us, and his legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched.
