Ron Ellis Hockey Death News: Toronto Maple Leafs Player Passed Away
Ron Ellis, who spent more than a thousand games with the Toronto Maple Leafs and represented Canada in the Summit Series in 1972, passed away at the age of 79. On Saturday, May 11, 2024, the Maple Leafs announced Ellis’s passing on social media.
No reason for the death was stated.
The Ellis family is receiving the sincere condolences of the Toronto Maple Leafs staff and supporters during this difficult time.
Ellis spent his whole 15-year NHL career in Toronto, where he finished with 1,034 games played and 640 points (332 goals, 308 assists).
Just five players have played 1,000 games for the team, including him. He was a member of the final Maple Leafs team to win the Stanley Cup in 1966–1967, and he was a four-time all-star.
Ellis was a reliable offensive threat who twice went over the 30-goal threshold and had 11 seasons with 20 goals or more.
In 1968, Ellis was given a unique honor when Ace Bailey, a former player for the Leafs, requested that the team bring his No. 6 out of retirement so Ellis could wear it. For the last 11 seasons of his career, Ellis (then wearing No. 8) wore Bailey’s number.
