Roland Bourgeois Moncton NB Obituary, Death – On December 22nd, Roland Bourgeois passed away peacefully at his family home, bringing to an end his courageous battle with a relentless degenerative disease. Born in Moncton in 1953 to the late Blair Bourgeois and Angela (LeBlanc) Bourgeois, Roland lived a life defined by extraordinary talent, unwavering passion, and an abiding love for music and family.
Roland’s life was deeply connected to music, a passion he pursued with unmatched dedication and artistry. As a masterful trumpet player, he performed with both seasoned and emerging Acadian and Canadian musicians, leaving an indelible mark on the music scene. Many will fondly remember his weekly performances with Jazz Generation at the Caveau, as well as his jazz fusion group, Feu Vert, which he proudly formed and played in alongside his sons.
For 39 years, Roland dedicated himself to teaching music, inspiring generations of students in Toronto, Fredericton, and Southeastern New Brunswick. He was more than a teacher—he was a mentor, a guide, and a nurturing presence who encouraged his students to discover and embrace their love for music. His generosity and dedication left a lasting impact on countless lives, with many students crediting him as a pivotal influence in their own journeys.
In his retirement, Roland channeled his creative energy into composing and performing, releasing three albums as a bandleader. He also organized a series of concerts at the Centre Culturel Aberdeen, featuring acclaimed jazz musicians and enriching the local cultural landscape. Though his illness eventually interrupted these projects, his contributions to the music community remain celebrated and cherished.
Roland is survived by his devoted wife, Renée (née LaPointe); his beloved sons, André (Matar) and Alain (Maxine); his sisters, Céleste (Michel) and Charlotte (Pierre); his brother, Robert (Lucille); his sisters-in-law, Odette (Gérard) and Anne; his brother-in-law, Jean-Marc; his aunt, Fernande (Paul); and a large extended family of cousins, nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews.
As per Roland’s wishes, no formal funeral will be held. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects and share memories during visitation at the Passage-Chartersville Funeral Cooperative, 363 Amirault Street, Dieppe, on Sunday, December 29th, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. A graveside service will be held in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Roland’s memory may be made to the Fondation Louis-J.-Robichaud or Sistema New Brunswick.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the dedicated team at Extra-Mural Blanche-Bourgeois and caregivers Nathalie Drisdelle and Donel Hébert, whose compassionate care allowed Roland to spend his final days surrounded by music, love, and cherished memories.
