Roger D Smith,Jeffrey M Allen Obituary, Death; – A child in Kentucky fatally shot two men who were attempting to steal firearms from a safe in a residence early Sunday morning, according to police reports.
Clay County 911 received a call around 4:24 a.m. regarding a shooting in Manchester. Upon arrival, Manchester Police discovered two individuals had been shot and subsequently called for assistance from the Kentucky State Police, as stated in a news release from KSP.
Investigators determined that the child, a resident of the home, encountered the two men inside and observed them with firearms, as reported by KSP. “The juvenile, acting in self-defense, retrieved a handgun and shot both men before fleeing through a bedroom window,” KSP noted.
It remains unclear how the child accessed the handgun or whether any other individuals were present in the home during the incident. The two men have been identified by state police as 44-year-old Roger D. Smith and 51-year-old Jeffrey M. Allen. Smith was taken to Advent Health Manchester, where he succumbed to his injuries, while Allen was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Clay County Coroner confirmed the deaths of both men. Autopsies were conducted by the medical examiner on Monday, and the investigation is still ongoing. The Manchester Police Department and Kentucky State Police have not yet responded to requests for comment from NBC News.
