Robert Wertz Obituary, Death – On March 24, 2024, Robert “Bob” J. Wertz, who was 86 years old and lived in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, passed away in a calm and serene manner. He was accompanied by his devoted family. The legacy that he leaves behind is one that is brimming with love and loyalty. His family and friends will miss him as much as they can possibly imagine. In Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, on April 21, 1937, Bob Wertz was born to his parents, Charles and Hazel (Hollinger) Wertz.
Bob received his high school diploma from William Penn High School. After completing his education, Bob went on to serve with distinction in the United States Navy, where he participated in the Honolulu Symphony Orchestra and the Navy Band. Because of his strong love for his nation and his aptitude for playing the French horn, he was able to discover a passion that would last a lifetime.
Performing for the Harrisburg, Hershey, and West Shore Symphony Orchestras, as well as the New Cumberland Towne Band and the Keystone Concert Band, brought him much joy. In addition to his abilities as a musician, Bob worked for the government of the United States of America as a computer and software programmer. In Steelton, Bob attended the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church as a member of the congregation.
The woman who would become Bob’s dearest friend and the love of his life was Maxine (Weigle) Wertz. In 1963, Jinny arranged for a blind date to take place, which ultimately led to the commencement of a marriage and friendship that would last for almost sixty years. The legacy that Bob and Maxine left behind was one that was filled with love and compassion. Together, they established a community of musicians and artists.
In addition to his devoted wife Maxine, Robert is survived by his two sons, Andrew and his wife Charissa, and Douglas and his wife Julie, as well as three grandchildren: Kadyn, who is 19 years old, Dawson, who is 16 years old, and Davis, who is 10 years old. Furthermore, Bob is survived by extra members of his family and friends who cherished him and will mourn him tremendously upon his passing.
On Wednesday, April 3, 2024, the family would like to extend an invitation to you to visit Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, located at 221 S 2nd St, Steelton, Pennsylvania 17113, for a celebration of Bob’s extraordinary life. Between the hours of ten and eleven in the morning, there will be a period for gathering. There will be a funeral service at eleven in the morning. At 12:30 p.m.
Bob’s earthly committal service will be place at Paxtang Cemetery, which is located at 490 N Paxtang Ave, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania 17111. Services are going to be presided over by Pastor Chad Butz. It is the responsibility of the Dauphin County Honor Guard to provide full military honors. Immediately following the earthly committal, the family will have a luncheon in the fellowship hall of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church.
