Robert “Bob” Angst Death – The last living sibling in his family, Robert “Bob” Angst was born on May 24, 1934, in Winona, Minnesota, to Clarence Angst and Helen Rothering. Bob was a distinguished Cold War submarine veteran who died quietly at home on July 17, 2023. Bob’s departure signifies the end of an incredible journey, both in service and in life.
Family Legacy
Bob is survived by his devoted wife, Judith (Gibbs) Angst, with whom he shared 63 years of marriage. Together, they raised a loving family, including their children Russell (Linda) Angst, Douglas (Michelle) Angst, and Kristyn (Robert) McCaffrey. His legacy continues through his grandchildren Luke, Benjamin, and Olivia; great-granddaughter Gracelynn; and step-grandchildren Josh (Kimberly) Jones and Matt (Zarah) Jones, along with step-great-grandson Oliver. He also leaves behind numerous nephews and nieces. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Helen Angst, and his siblings Willard, Laverne, Irvin, Olive Hitner, John, and Richard.
A Life of Service and Dedication
Bob’s life of service began after he graduated from Cotter High School in 1953, when he joined the Navy and served on a submarine from 1953 to 1957. His commitment to his country was honored when he participated in an Honor Flight in 2021, a tribute to his brave service during the Cold War.
Career and Hobbies
After his military service, Bob worked at Angst Motor Company alongside his father and later ventured into construction, contributing to projects with Madison Silo, Rollingstone Lumber, and Schwab Construction. He and Judy built a cherished homestead on 136 acres, where they spent 50 years creating lasting memories. Bob had a diverse array of interests, including deer hunting, fishing, gardening, farming, snowmobiling, and playing pool.
Cherished Memories
Bob’s greatest joy came from spending time with his family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him and cherished his memory. His contributions, both in service and in life, will be remembered with great fondness. His passion for intarsia woodworking in his later years produced beautiful pieces of furniture that will be treasured by his family for generations. He was known for his friendliness and ability to connect with everyone he met.
