Ricky Kelly And April Kelley Murder–suicide, Colbert GA: The Madison County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the murders of a Colbert couple, which were described Monday as a murder/suicide. The couple was discovered dead Sunday in their house on Brittany Point, a community west of the city limits and about north of Georgia Highway 78.
The pair was identified as April Kelley, 45, and her husband, Ricky Kelley, 48, who is thought to have killed his wife before turning the gun on himself, according to sheriff’s investigators. According to the sheriff’s report, deputies were alerted to the house by family members early in the afternoon and discovered two individuals inside, as well as two dead on the floor.
Autopsies have been ordered, and the crime scene is being investigated, but all indications lead to a murder/suicide, Sheriff’s Capt. Jimmy Patton says. The couple had separated, but Patton said authorities are still looking into when each arrived to the house, “where something tragic happened.”

April Kelley was found on the floor in the living room with a gunshot wound to the head, while Ricky Kelley was discovered nearby with a head wound and the gun, a Ruger P96, under his body, according to the report. A constable claimed that two weeks prior, he had served a temporary protection order against Ricky Kelley, which had been lifted by his wife. April Kelley informed the constable that she planned to stay with her family.
According to the story, the couple’s grievances were scheduled to be heard in court on October 21. According to the report, family members visited the home after discovering a troubling Facebook video post by Ricky Kelley. The house’s doors were locked, but family members forced one open to gain entry, according to the report. The sheriff’s office recorded the Facebook post as part of its investigation. According to Patton, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation sent a forensics unit to the house to process the crime scene.
