Richard Withers Obituary, Death; – A victim of a double shooting in rural Petersburg has been officially identified by the coroner. Jim Allmon, the Sangamon County Coroner, confirmed that the deceased is Richard Withers, aged 40, from Petersburg.
On February 1, Withers was transported from his residence in the 15000 block of Tice Road in Menard County to Springfield Memorial Hospital after suffering a gunshot wound. He was declared dead on February 2 at 5:12 p.m. An autopsy is set to be conducted, and the case is currently under investigation by both the Sangamon County Coroner and the Illinois State Police.
Upon their arrival at the scene of the shooting, deputies discovered two individuals with gunshot wounds, both of whom were subsequently taken to local hospitals in critical condition.
Neither the Illinois State Police nor the Menard County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed the status of the other victim. WAND News has also made inquiries to both the Menard County Coroner and the Sangamon County Coroner. This situation is still developing.
