According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the collision happened when the pedestrian, identified as Richard Hubbard, 50, from Phillipsburg, was walking north on 10th Avenue and attempted to cross US-54 highway. At that moment, a semitrailer traveling westbound on US-54 struck Hubbard. Emergency responders arrived at the scene promptly, and Hubbard was transported to an area hospital. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

The semitrailer involved in the collision was driven by Charles D. Cunningham, 67, of Pleasant Hope. Fortunately, Cunningham was reported to be uninjured in the accident. The Kansas Highway Patrol confirmed that Cunningham was wearing his seat belt at the time of the collision.
