Richard Campbell Obituary, Death – On Saturday, March 30, 2024, at St. Luke’s Miners Memorial in Coaldale, Pennsylvania, Richard F. Campbell, a longtime youth sports coach in Tamaqua and a passionate supporter of the athletics program at Tamaqua High School, passed away. He was a resident of Rowe Street in Tamaqua. At the time, he was 82 years old.
Harold “Pete” Campbell and Helen M. (Baddick) Campbell, both of whom passed away, were his parents. He was born on Monday, August 25, 1941 in Tamaqua, Pennsylvania. In addition, Rich was preceded in death by his cherished wife, Verna I. (Edmonds) Campbell, who passed away on February 8, 2017, and his grandson, Michael T. Boyer, who passed away on January 2, 2020.
Among those who are still alive are the following: a daughter named Cay Anne Campbell and her companion Michaël Curran, who reside in Pottsville; a son named Richard T. “Rick” Campbell and his wife Lisa, who reside in South Williamsport; a son named Steven P. Campbell, who resides in Tamaqua; grandchildren named Rebeca “Becky,” Richard, and Zachary; and a great-grandchild named Harper, who was the love of his life.
After graduating from Marian Catholic High School, Rich went on to serve with distinction in the United States Marine Reserve for a period of eight years. Rich was not only a devoted member of the Tamaqua organization St. John XXIII R.C.C., but he was also a member of the Tamaqua Legion Post #173. Rich, who had previously served as President of the Tamaqua Football Boosters, was known to be in charge of the French fry stand on game night.
Additionally, he was a member of the chain gang for a considerable amount of time, manning the sidelines for all of the Tamaqua football home games. For eight years, Rich coached Little League baseball, and for twelve years, he mentored Knee football players. Rich, a passionate outdoorsman, enjoyed activities such as golfing, hunting, and fly fishing. Rich enjoyed going to the casino and dancing to classic rock and roll music. He looked forward to going to the casino.
Following his retirement from his position as a prison guard at SCI Mahanoy, Rich worked for Mack Trucks and Ametek. The E. On Thursday, April 4, 2024, at ten o’clock in the morning, a Mass of Christian Burial will be organized and held at St. John XXIII R.C.C., which is located at 307 Pine Street in Tamaqua, Pennsylvania 18252.
