Richard Allen Ray Obituary, Death; – A pedestrian who was fatally struck by a vehicle on Sunday night along eastbound Highway 50 in Sacramento has been named.
Richard Allen Ray, aged 36, was located in the No. 3 lane around 10 p.m. when he was hit by a red Kia Forte traveling at approximately 65 mph, as reported by Officer Mark Leavitt of the California Highway Patrol South Sacramento. The incident took place just west of 15th Street.
According to the driver of the Kia, she noticed an object in the road ahead but was uncertain of its nature. Authorities later confirmed that it was Ray who was in the roadway, Leavitt stated. The CHP indicated in a news release that “the driver had no time to swerve or stop to avoid a collision.”
Ray impacted the left front of the Kia and sustained fatal injuries, as per law enforcement reports. He was declared dead at the scene. The CHP confirmed that no other vehicles were involved in the incident, and the driver and passengers of the Kia reported no injuries. Investigators do not believe that alcohol or drugs played a role in the accident.
