Speaker Martin Romualdez said in a statement Saturday night, April 27, that the House of Representatives lost a “great legal thinker” with the passing of Cavite 4th district Rep. Elpidio “Pidi” Barzaga Jr.
In 1970, Barzaga graduated cum laude with a degree in Bachelor of Science in Commerce with a Major in Accounting from San Beda College.
He completed his Bachelor of Laws Degree magna cum laude from the Far Eastern University in 1975.

Cong Pidi’s passing has left us inconsolable.
The House of Representatives has just lost a great legal thinker and a smart number-cruncher,” Romualdez said a few hours after Barzaga’s family announced the passing of the veteran senator.
Speaker Romualdez said he and his colleagues would remember Cong. Pidi as the person they could turn to for legal advice and understanding the maze of numbers in the national budget. CPA- lawyer.
“I myself consulted him on some legal issues,” Romualdez said of Barzaga, a certified public accountant (CPA) and lawyer.
“He was always lending a helping hand. We will also remember him as an indefatigable lawmaker who made it a point to attend sessions and participate actively in committee hearings with extensive preparations,” he said.
“Our prayers and thoughts go to Cong. Pidi’s family, especially his wife, Mayor Jenny Barzaga, his sons and his constituents,” Speaker Romualdez added.
