Reggie Hunter,Kareem Badawi Obituary, Death; – A father of two, and an Episcopal graduate were among the 14 people killed in a terrorist attack on Bourbon Street. Reggie Hunter, 37, and Kareem Badawi were identified as the two from Baton Rouge killed, the family confirmed.
Badawi, the Episcopal alumnus had just finished his first semester at Alabama and took a trip to celebrate the new year with a big group of friends. Funeral services were held for Badawi on Friday, January 3. The family gathered for a brief prayer service at Masid Al Rahman, a mosque located at the Islamic Center of Baton Rouge.
“He is a lovely boy. I lost my son. He’s a good boy,” he said of his son. “Unfortunately, his life ended that quick and with no reason,” his father, Belal Badawi said in an interview.
Another Episcopal graduate of 2024, Parker Vidrine, is still recovering in the hospital. He was with Kareem during the attack on Bourbon Street.
Hunter, a father of two, and his cousin were both hit by a truck that was driven at a high rate of speed down Bourbon Street after deciding to bring in the New Year in New Orleans, according to family. Hunter died from his injuries. His cousin was among the dozens injured in the attack.
FBI Deputy Director Christopher Raia confirmed Thursday that the attack was premeditated and carried out by 42-year-old Shamsud Din Jabbar, who acted alone. Jabbar killed 14 and injured 35 others after driving into a crowd on Bourbon Street before engaging in a deadly shootout with police.
