Rich Homie Quan, an Atlanta rapper, passed away at the age of 34.
Atlanta News First was informed by the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office that Grady Memorial Hospital had confirmed the rapper’s passing on Thursday.
In a social media statement, his old record company Young Money Entertainment also confirmed his passing.
On social media, dozens of rappers and fans responded to the news.
Rich Homie Quan’s full name is Dequantes Devontay Lamar, and he was born in Atlanta on October 4, 1989. On September 19, he was supposed to play at Atlanta’s State Farm Arena.
Lamar began his career in 2011, and his 2013 track “Type of Way,” which peaked at No. 50 50 on the Billboard Hot 100, was his first hit to achieve widespread success. “Flex,” his song from 2015, peaked at No. 26 on the chart, confirming its success.
When Corey Lamar, Quan’s father, was shot at his barbershop in September 2014, he sustained injuries. Prosecutors in Fulton County have been attempting to connect the incident to a purported criminal organization headed by Young Thug, who is now facing several criminal and gang-related charges in Atlanta.
Kenneth Copeland, often known as Lil’ Woody, acknowledged a few weeks earlier that he and a companion had opened fire inside the barbershop.
Fulton County Deputy District Attorney Symone Hilton questioned Copeland about his motivation, and he stated that the shooting was done “to send a message” that “we ain’t the ones to play with.”
Copeland played a crucial role in the prosecution’s case against Young Thug, whose real name is Jeffrey Williams. But Copeland has admitted time and time again that he told lies to the police in 2015 so they could use the group known as Young Slime Life or Young Stoner Life as the foundation of their case
