Randolph McKinley Obituary, Death; – Troopers from the Louisiana State Police (LSP) are conducting an investigation following an incident in which a truck struck and fatally injured a pedestrian near the Sunshine Bridge on the morning of Tuesday, December 10. The victim has been identified as 63-year-old Randolph McKinley from Convent. The collision occurred at approximately 5 a.m. on Highway 70, just west of the Sunshine Bridge in St. James Parish.
As reported by LSP, a 2014 GMC Sierra was traveling eastbound on Highway 70 when, for reasons that remain under investigation, it collided with McKinley, who was crossing the eastbound lanes of the road from the north. According to state police, McKinley succumbed to his injuries at the scene, while the driver of the GMC, who was wearing a seatbelt, sustained no injuries.
Troopers do not believe that the driver was under the influence of alcohol. The driver voluntarily provided a breath sample, which indicated no presence of alcohol. Officials have confirmed that a standard toxicology sample was taken from McKinley for further analysis. The investigation is ongoing
