The California Highway Patrol reports that a head-on collision occurred on Interstate 5 near Liberal Avenue in the Corning region at approximately 12:45 p.m. on Saturday, July 29.
Fatal accident on I-5
The accident that resulted in the death of multiple victims included a 2016 Ram pickup and a 2003 Infiniti. The fatal accident affected both vehicles and five victims were pronounced dead. According to the authorities, the Infiniti veered into oncoming traffic for reasons that are yet unknown, directly into the path of the Ram truck, and the two vehicles collided as a result.
According to the authorities, the crash occurred when the Infiniti, for reasons that are still unknown, crossed the median and slammed head-on with the Dodge Ram.
According to the CHP, none of the four occupants inside the Infiniti were wearing seatbelts when the collision occurred. As a result, all of them were thrown from the vehicle and later confirmed dead at the site of the accident. The driver of the vehicle was a guy in his forties and his passengers ranged in age from their forties to their eighties.
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the collision resulted in the death of the truck’s driver, who was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Ram truck was identified as Randall “Randy” Schriefer, 52, of Morgan Hill, according to The Mercury News in San Jose. Schriefer just retired from the San Jose Police Department as Captain and now lives in Morgan Hill.
They add that his passenger was recognized as his wife, Kelly, who is 48 years old. She apparently suffered significant injuries and was taken to a hospital in the area.
