Rahmiere Morris Obituary, Death; – A 17-year-old male has been charged with murder following the fatal shooting of a Jersey City resident on Friday night.
The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office has withheld the identity of the adolescent, who was apprehended in relation to the death of 20-year-old Rahmiere Morris. The arrest took place at a residence on Garfield Avenue in Jersey City, where the teen was also charged with unlawful possession of a firearm.
According to prosecutors, the Jersey City Police Department received a report of a shooting in the vicinity of Lembeck Avenue and Old Bergen Road shortly before 8:30 p.m. on Friday. Morris was discovered with a gunshot wound to the torso and was transported to Jersey City Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at approximately 9:35 p.m.
Prosecutors noted that no additional information regarding the charged teen has been disclosed, as matters involving juveniles are confidential.
On Saturday, Council President Joyce Watterman released a statement indicating that the community’s response to Morris’s shooting differed from the reaction to a recent assault on a man near the Exchange Place PATH train station. She remarked, “As of now, the assailant has not been found. This is a devastating loss for Rahmiere’s family, friends, and community. Yet where is the same urgency?”
