Queenie Spindel Obituary – Queenie Spindel (née Shrand) passed away on March 31st, 2024, she was 74 years old. It is with deep regret that we share the news of her demise. She was a remarkable soul who graced this world with her intelligence, dynamic sense of humor, and unending love. Queenie Shrand was born in Cape Town, South Africa, to her parents, Isaac and Masha Shrand. Queenie’s loving spirit knew no limitations, as she was a devoted mother to Inge (Adam) and Jared (Yana), as well as a stepmother to Benita (Hans). Her job as Bubbie to Hudson and Charlie brought her the greatest delight, as it allowed her to infuse their lives with love, laughter, and memories that they would cherish forever.
The life of Queenie became interwoven with the life of Harvey, who was both her ex-husband and her best friend. They had a relationship that lasted for a long time and are now back together. Her siblings, Devorah, Shirley, Jennifer, and Cecil, were extremely important to Queenie, and she valued the closeness that they all shared. Their relationship remained unshakeable in spite of the physical distances that separated them. Queenie left an indelible impression on the lives of children, parents, coworkers, and the community alike throughout her tenure at Hillcrest Progressive School, where she served as a teacher, principal, and camp director. She imparted information, stimulated minds, and provided joy to a great number of people.
As a result of Queenie’s vivacious energy and magnetic attractiveness, she was able to attract an extraordinary circle of friends who provided her a great deal of excitement and enriched her life. Queenie has been fighting Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) with the ferocity and dignity that befits the Queen that she truly was for the past three years since she was diagnosed with the disease. Over the course of her trip, she demonstrated an extraordinary amount of courage and tenacity. She will forever be a source of encouragement and motivation, illuminating the path for us to follow as we navigate the difficulties of life with bravery and dignity.
We would like to express our gratitude to the doctors and staff that gave her with exceptional care during her trip, particularly to Dr. Sibai and Dr. Pasic.
