Prentice Lovell Little Obituary – Authorities have disclosed the identity of a 15-year-old boy who was fatally shot in Birmingham early Sunday. The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office has confirmed that the teenager was Prentice Lovell Little, a resident of Birmingham. According to the police, the tragic death of Prentice is believed to have resulted from the mishandling of a firearm. A 14-year-old boy has been detained in juvenile custody while the investigation is ongoing.
Officer Truman Fitzgerald stated on Sunday, “Based on our investigation findings, we do not suspect foul play. It appears to be a case of juveniles being out early in the morning, and a tragic accident occurred due to the mishandling of a gun, resulting in the loss of a 15-year-old young man.”
Early Sunday morning, officers from the South Precinct were called to UAB Hospital after a person arrived with a gunshot wound. Upon arrival at the hospital, it was discovered that Prentice had been brought in by a minivan. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead at 8:28 a.m.
Fitzgerald mentioned that the shooting likely occurred in the Roebuck or Huffman area. Officers from the East Precinct collaborated with those from the South Precinct, who had responded to the hospital, and located a crime scene in the 9200 block of Parkway East.
Specifically, the scene was situated between Walmart and Wells Fargo, close to a small cluster of businesses. During the investigation at the scene, a handgun was found hidden in bushes, along with bloodstains on the ground.
Four other males who were with the victim at the hospital stayed behind after bringing him for medical assistance. Their ages ranged from 14 to 18, and they were all transported to the police headquarters for questioning.
It was revealed that all the males, who hailed from the west side of the city, were together in the van, driving around east Birmingham.
“At some point between the 9200 block of Parkway East and another location, the 14-year-old male was in possession of a handgun. Due to circumstances that are still unclear, he discharged the firearm, striking the 15-year-old victim and causing his death,” Fitzgerald explained.
