JaQuan Fletcher Death – The Oakland County Sheriff’s Department is looking into the shooting death of a man by a deputy early on Friday morning in Pontiac. JaQuan Fletcher was shot dead by Oakland County police officer while he was sleeping in his car. Shortly after 5:45 a.m., deputies were sent to the intersection of N. Roselawn and Maines in response to a report of a suspicious vehicle blocking a driveway. They arrived around 10 minutes later to discover the parked vehicle still running with the driver sleeping inside.
What happened to JaQuan Fletcher?
The deputies said that they tried to make contact with the driver from both sides of the vehicle. When the deputy on duty opened the unlocked door to rouse up the driver, he allegedly discovered a firearm on the floor next to him. After ordering the driver to put his hands behind his back, the deputy took the weapon out of the car and put it on the roof. Deputies said the driver flat-out refused to stop. The deputy sitting in the passenger seat opened the door to assist and keep an eye on the driver.
He was allegedly refusing and disobeying commands, so the deputy partially entered the vehicle to help. The motorist then engaged forward motion and sped off, colliding with the police vehicle, the curb, and a street sign. According to Sheriff Mike Bouchard, everything went down when the deputy was leaning out the passenger side window.
A single shot from the deputy brought the car to a halt. The driver was transported to the hospital by emergency medical services, but he was pronounced dead once he arrived there. Additionally, the deputy was transported to the hospital for evaluation and treatment of their minor injuries.
Angela Allen while mourning his death posted that “one day of negative press surrounding my nephew to justify the the Oakland County Deputy killing him. Point is, they didn’t know who he was at the time of the incident. My nephew was woken up by a deputy putting his hands behind his back while still sitting in the driver seat SLEEP! I can not get over the fact that the deputy went for the kill shot. It was literally a shot to kill him. Not a stop or I’ll shot (the way they teach us) or even a shot scare or slow him down but to kill yet another HUMAN BEING that just so happen to be BLACK!”
