Police Investigation: 27-Year-Old Alston Modlin Identified as Suspect Wanted in Shooting of SC Officer Found Dead
MCBEE, S.C.
– A statewide Blue Alert for an armed and dangerous man has been revoked, according to officials, and the suspect has passed away.
During a late-night traffic check in Chesterfield County on Thursday, 27-year-old Alston Modlin shot and injured a McBee police officer, according to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.
The officer is presently receiving treatment in a hospital, according to SLED agents.
Modlin’s Toyota Tacoma and description were included in a Blue Alert. All around the state, signs were erected beside interstates.
Law authorities found Modlin on Ashland Stokes Bridge Road in Lee County on Friday morning at around ten a.m. According to SLED, there was then a gunfire involving an officer.
Modlin’s death has been officially certified by the Lee County Coroner’s Office, and a death investigation is still underway.
Given that SLED, SCDNR, and the Lee County Sheriff’s Office were all involved before Modlin passed away, the Horry County Police Department was requested to look into the officer-involved shooting.
In a news release, the department stated, “HCPD is committed to providing a thorough, independent investigation in as timely a manner as is possible under the circumstances.” “Law enforcement and public safety personnel from a variety of departments will be on scene for some time, providing assistance to community members in the area of the incident and investigation.”
