As of Tuesday morning, July 27 Emmanuel, 26, who was shot in the head during his performance, was listed as seriously injured. The Beetham native was accused of belonging to a gang in Trinidad earlier this month. Given Emmanuel’s past, the shooting has sparked concerns about the island’s immigration and security policies. The event happened at the Moonbar Rooftop on Rhine Road, Sint Maarten, on July 27, shortly after four in the morning.
The administration of Sint Maarten has responded to the gunfire incident that occurred on Sunday of this week with firmness. Meschach Emmanuel, popularly known as “Plumpy Boss,” a Trinidad and Tobago-based artist who was recently charged with gang membership in his native country, was shot in the head during a concert. The Sint Maarten government has announced that they did not authorize Emmanuel’s entry into the country and have subsequently initiated plans for his departure.
The relevant government agencies have started talks, investigations, and agreements in the wake of this catastrophe to enhance public safety regulations and stop such incidents from happening in the future. The administration produced a statement claiming that Mercelina, who is also acting as the Minister of Health, organized Emmanuel’s air medical evacuation to Trinidad.
During the evacuation procedure, there were initial challenges in locating a host hospital in Trinidad; nevertheless, these challenges were eventually resolved by the joint efforts of the Prime Minister, SZV, SMMC, and the Trinidadian authorities. The administration acknowledged the responsibility the police department played in making sure medical staff could operate in a safe setting during the crisis.
