The suspect, Michael Escolas, a 42-year-old from Oxford, was allegedly driving the stolen Jeep at high speeds when he rear-ended a Nissan Altima that was stopped at the traffic light. The force of the collision was severe, leading to tragic consequences for the family in the Altima. Inside the Altima were a father, mother, and their four children. The crash resulted in significant injuries to all family members, and the young 10-year-old child was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital. The remaining family members were also hospitalized with serious injuries.
Michael Escolas now faces several charges, including motor vehicle manslaughter and operating under the influence (OUI). The Norfolk District Attorney’s Office has announced that Escolas is being held on $25,000 cash bail and is scheduled to appear in Wrentham District Court on Monday.
