The driver who passed away in a two-vehicle collision early Thursday morning has been identified as 21-year-old Payton Patterson, a resident of Coatesville and a 2020 graduate of North Putnam High School.
According to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, the fatal crash took place just before 6 a.m. at the intersection of U.S. 36 and County Road 25 East. Preliminary reports provided by Sgt. Anthony Brown suggests that Patterson was traveling north on County Road 25 East in a Ford F-150 when he crossed into the path of an eastbound Toyota Tacoma.
The Tacoma, driven by Neil Burge, struck Patterson’s vehicle as he entered U.S. 36, resulting in fatal injuries to Patterson. The Indiana State Police are working alongside the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office to carry out a detailed reconstruction of the accident to clarify the events and factors involved.
