Paul Duggan Obituary, Death – We are sorry to inform you of the passing of Paul Duggan, who was the former captain of the Taunton 1st XV. Paul served in this role for many years. We have to tell you this disheartening information with a heavy feeling in our hearts. Paul passed away on September 23rd, marking his departure from this life.
Paul joined Taunton in 1968 after having previously played for Clifton, Glamorgan Wanderers, and Wasps RFC. He brought with him an enormous understanding of rugby that he had obtained during his time as a player during his time with those three teams. In Taunton, where the 1969–1970 season was about to begin, the squad decided he would lead the 1st XV and appointed him captain.
After Paul’s playing career came to an end, he became active in the next generation of rugby players in Taunton, particularly with the Colts. In the 1983–1984 season, he was recognized as Clubman of the Year, and in the 1989–1990 season, he “hung up his boots” and retired from the sport.
He never missed a home game for Taunton, and for a significant chunk of his career, he was in charge of keeping his own playing records and statistics. He played his whole life. He was a dependable presence at all of Taunton’s games and never missed one of their contests.
During this incomparably trying time, we would like to express our thoughts and prayers to the deceased’s wife Julia, their sons Mark and Andrew, and their daughter Louisa, as well as the rest of the deceased’s immediate and extended family and friends. Our condolences go out to the deceased’s family and friends who have passed away.
