Early Life and Career
Born on July 25, 1966, in Columbia, Louisiana, Paul grew up in Urania and distinguished himself in both basketball and track at LaSalle High School, graduating with honors in 1984. He pursued higher education at the University of Louisiana at Monroe, earning degrees in Pre Law and Education. Paul’s career began as a history teacher and track and field coach at Weston and Quitman High Schools, later teaching at St. Frederick’s High School and River Oaks School in Monroe. His passion for education and ability to inspire a love of learning made him a beloved figure among students and faculty alike.
Community Engagement
In addition to his role in education, Paul worked for over forty years at Mac’s Fresh Market, where he was affectionately known as “Mr. Paul” by customers and friends. His genuine friendliness and commitment to service earned him the admiration of the community. Paul was recognized with numerous awards, including the Faculty Spirit of St. Frederick Award and the Teacher Award from the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary for his outstanding patriotism. In 2018, he was honored by Mac’s Fresh Market for Outstanding Leadership in the Community.
Faith and Family
Paul was a devoted member of Iglesia Bautista Emmanuel, where his faith and love for God and family were evident in all he did. He was known for his unwavering support and dedication to his loved ones, reflecting his deep commitment to family values.
Survived By
Paul is survived by his loving wife, Alicia Nugent; his children, Albert, Ashley, Lexie, and Aidan; his sisters, Carol Nugent and Sybil Ann Tidwell; his brothers, Gerald Nugent Jr. and Matthew Nugent; his aunt, Beverly Callender; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Final Arrangements
Visitation will be held at Griffin Funeral Home in West Monroe, Louisiana, on Sunday, August 11, from 5 P.M. to 8 P.M. Funeral services will take place on Monday, August 12, at 10 A.M., also at Griffin Funeral Home, with interment following at Hasley Cemetery in West Monroe.
Paul’s legacy of kindness, dedication, and community spirit will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His impact on both his profession and his community stands as a testament to a life well-lived.
