Patrice Miller Obituary – Patrice Miller, a 71-year-old woman from California, was tragically discovered deceased in her home in Downieville. The Sierra County sheriff’s deputies found signs of a bear entering the property, leading to the suspicion that the bear had been feeding on her remains. Sheriff Mike Fisher mentioned that the scent might have attracted the bear, as it was reported that the bear had been returning to the house multiple times.
A bear was eventually trapped and euthanized, with an autopsy confirming that Miller had passed away due to a bear mauling. This incident marked the first fatal black bear attack on a human in the state, as confirmed by the Department of Fish and Wildlife. The bear activity significantly decreased after another bear was euthanized for attempting to break into a school gym.
