Tribute To Owen Simmons, By Brian Ohler
Brian Ohler wrote on the North Canaan, Connecticut social media handle ”Dear Friends, It’s taken me a few times to try to put into words all of the emotions that our community has been feeling over the past 48 hours. We lost a son, a brother, a grandson, a nephew, a teammate, a student, and a cherished friend. Owen’s smile was truly infectious. His energy and his love were felt by every person who had the honor and pleasure of knowing him. His time here proved, above all else, that love, support, and kindness to others, must be a part of all of us. It must be the very foundation of our purpose, and the reason in all that we do. Owen left his mark at school, on a stage, on playgrounds, on hockey rinks, and within our hearts.
As our community continues to come together, in prayer, in service, and in support of the Simmons/Whiting Family, may we all find some peace and solace knowing just how much Owen was loved. His life here with us will never ever be forgotten. In fact, it is certain that Owen’s life and legacy will be memorialized in so many ways; a perpetual act that will undoubtedly spread the same level of love and kindness that Owen showed us each and every day. The grieving process has many different stages, and those stages don’t always occur in the same order, as each person may have differing experiences.
N.C.E.S has been graciously assisting our students over the past two days. As emotions change, or if you find yourself needing some assistance, please know that guidance and counseling has established and is currently in place if you, your child, or a loved one, is in need of further support during this very difficult time. We will always band together, holding each other close, to comfort and to care. The family has kindly asked that if donations are to be made, that they please be offered in Owen’s memory to Berkshire Rattlers Youth Hockey or to the North Canaan Elementary School Band. With great love”
