RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Although rare, the North Carolina coast is again facing a likely winter storm this season.
Just last month, the Outer Banks and many beach areas of North Carolina were already hit with several inches of snow this winter.
Now, winter storm warnings extend all the way to the islands of the Outer Banks.
Kill Devil Hills on the coast could receive up to 3 inches of snow — after already getting snow this winter. The winter storm warning includes Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills, Nags Head, Manteo, and Duck.

The National Weather Service on Tuesday expanded the ice forecast across the coastal plain south of Greenville and west of U.S. 17.
Duke Energy said on Tuesday they were focusing on eastern North Carolina — and the coast.
“That could really extend all the way out to Morehead City and the coast, big area we’re covering,” Duke Energy spokesman Jeff Brooks told CBS 17’s Baron James. “And we’ll adjust and shift resources as we need to meet those needs.”
Snow forecast totals were increased higher Tuesday in eastern North Carolina generally north of U.S. 264, the National Weather Service said.
Northeastern North Carolina is forecast to get between 5 and 9 inches of snow, the National Weather Service said Tuesday.

Martin County is forecast to get up to 6 inches of snow.
“Travel will be very difficult. The hazardous conditions will impact the Wednesday evening and Thursday morning commutes,” the winter storm warning for several counties said.

The most snow would be for Northampton, Hertford, Gates, Pasquotank, Camden, Western Currituck, Bertie, Chowan, Perquimans, and Eastern Currituck counties, the weather service said.
