Oscar Rene Hernandez Augustin Obituary, Death; – The spouse of a man who has been reported missing, whose charred remains were discovered in a rural area of Homestead last month, has come forward as the suspect in his murder appeared in court once again.
Roiniel Perez, aged 31, is charged with second-degree murder involving a weapon, grand theft, and additional offenses after reportedly evading a traffic stop and leading law enforcement on a short chase that culminated in a collision while operating the victim’s vehicle on November 17, as detailed in an arrest report.
During a court appearance on Tuesday, Perez entered a plea of not guilty. Just days prior to the pursuit, on November 14, Miami-Dade Police located the body of 52-year-old Oscar Rene Hernandez Augustin alongside a dirt road in the 23600 block of Southwest 227th Avenue.
The report indicated that Augustin’s remains were burned from the waist down and exhibited signs of moderate decomposition. An autopsy confirmed that he had suffered multiple stab wounds.
Augustin had been reported missing only two days before the discovery of his body, along with his white 2015 Toyota Corolla, according to police records. Shortly thereafter, officers from the Miami-Dade Police’s South District observed an individual driving Augustin’s Corolla and attempted to initiate a traffic stop.
The driver, later identified as Perez, failed to comply and led officers on a brief chase before running a red light and colliding with another vehicle, as stated in the report. These events were captured on surveillance footage. Following the crash, Perez exited the vehicle and attempted to evade capture by hiding under a parked car until officers apprehended him.
According to the arrest report, Perez informed detectives that Augustin had picked him up from his home earlier in the week preceding his disappearance. Furthermore, Perez allegedly admitted to using Augustin’s bank card multiple times since the man’s disappearance, after detectives discovered the card in his possession along with Augustin’s identification.
Detectives also uncovered a significant amount of blood in the rear seats of Augustin’s vehicle, in addition to several pairs of blue latex gloves. Furthermore, Perez’s cellphone reportedly contained images of the victim.
