LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Federal and state law enforcement agencies worked together to arrested nearly 81 people who were in the country illegally.
From March 10 through March 14, several federal and state law enforcement agencies participated in Operation Take Back America, coordinated out of Louisville, according to the DOJ in a release. Those agencies worked together to “repel the invasion of illegal immigration” throughout Kentucky.
A total of 81 illegal immigrants were arrested, and many were charged with illegal reentry, possession of firearms and controlled substances.
The individuals not charged criminally will be held in ICE custody, pending removal proceedings and potential deportation.
In the Western District of Kentucky, the DOJ said 18 people are facing criminal charges, and are from Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Cuba, India and Palau.
“I commend the work of our federal law enforcement partners, prosecutors, and support personnel who worked tirelessly to make this operation a success,” stated U.S. Attorney Bennett. “The aggressive investigation and prosecution of those who violate immigration laws positively impacts the security of our communities and of the Nation.”
