CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, S.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — One of the escaped inmates from the Chesterfield County Detention Center was sentenced to ten years in prison, according to the Office of the Fourth Circuit Solicitor.
Kyonne McLeod, 22, pled guilty on Mar. 17 to escape and grand larceny in the Chesterfield County Court of General Sessions.
The charges came from an incident that occurred on October 14, 2024, where McLeod and three others escaped from the jail before going on the run for days.
After escaping, McLeod made his way to Patrick, S.C., where he and another escapee stole a truck. They were later found on Oct. 25 by Darlington police, where they were being held on trespassing, resisting arrest, and marijuana possession charges.
McLeod was originally in the detention center for general sessions bench warrants.
“The safety of all citizens in the Fourth Circuit is of paramount importance to me. The 10-year sentence given to Mr. McLeod sends a message to those who put our community at risk,” said Solicitor Mike Burch.
His sentence will be served in a facility to be determined by the South Carolina Department of Corrections.
