The Akron incident marks one of over 192 mass shootings in the US so far this year, according to the Gun Violence Archive. Upon arriving at the scene, authorities found it “littered” with spent shell casings, which stretched down an entire block. “Based on the layout of the spent shell casings, it appears consistent with someone driving by and shooting out of a car,” Chief Harding said. Evidence suggests that some partygoers may have returned fire, with at least two handguns recovered from the scene and different shell casings from multiple firearms found.
Authorities are uncertain if the shooter or the vehicle were hit by gunfire and have not yet provided a description of the suspect or vehicle involved. Investigators are concerned about the potential for retaliatory violence and are working to prevent further incidents. Officials from several agencies are offering a total reward of $22,500 for information leading to the identification and arrest of the suspect. “We are imploring the community to come forward,” Chief Harding stated. “We believe there are individuals who saw or know something about this incident.
