Officer Jacob Candanoza Obituary, Death; – A police officer in Texas succumbed to his injuries following a shooting incident during a traffic stop on Sunday night.
As reported by the Terrell Police Department via social media, Officer Jacob Candanoza sustained gunshot wounds around 11 p.m. The Officer Down Memorial page indicates that Candoza had called for backup after initiating the traffic stop in the parking lot of a Motel 8. A confrontation occurred, resulting in him being shot.
Numerous 9-1-1 calls were made reporting the shooting of an officer, including a radio communication from a citizen relaying the same information. Upon their arrival, officers and emergency medical services found Candanoza with a gunshot wound. Immediate medical assistance was provided before he was transported to the hospital, where he ultimately passed away from his injuries.
Authorities reported that the suspect fled the scene but was later apprehended after crashing his truck during a chase. The police department expressed their heartfelt condolences to his family as they cope with this devastating loss.
Candanoza had recently joined the Terrell Police Department in July 2024. He is survived by his wife and child. According to the Officer Down Memorial page, he was the first officer to die in the line of duty for the department in over 40 years, with Patrol Officer William Robert Stout, Jr. having been fatally shot in 1980.
