Officer Involved Shooting At The Market Place Shopping Center on Northwest Blvd, Catawba County :On the night of May 28, 2024, tragedy struck the tranquil town of Newton, North Carolina, as a routine evening took a devastating turn. At approximately 12:35 am, the Newton Police Department received a distressing call from the Catawba County Communications Center. A female caller reported that she had been shot while in the parking lot of the Catawba County Government Center, located at 25 Government Dr.
The swift response from law enforcement and emergency medical services (EMS) was nothing short of heroic. The injured woman managed to flee the scene, seeking refuge in the parking lot of Planet Fitness, situated at 2725 Northwest Blvd. There, officers, EMS personnel, and firefighters immediately sprang into action, initiating life-saving measures to stabilize her condition. The alleged shooter, identified as a male, drove into the parking lot where the emergency response was underway. Without hesitation, he began firing indiscriminately in the direction of the officers and EMS personnel who were tending to the wounded woman.
Both the female victim and the male suspect suffered multiple gunshot wounds in the altercation. They were promptly transported by ambulance to Catawba Valley Medical Center for urgent medical attention. Subsequently, they were airlifted to Atrium Health Medical Center in Charlotte for further specialized care.
It has been revealed that the victim and the suspect were acquainted with each other, shedding light on the possible motives behind this harrowing incident. However, the precise details surrounding the events leading up to the shooting remain under investigation by the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigations (SBI).
