Oded Lifshitz Obituary, Death; – The last 15 months have been tumultuous for Mark Vyvoda of Evansville. In October 2023, his aunt and uncle were taken hostage by Hamas. While his aunt was released shortly thereafter, his uncle, Oded Lifshitz, remained in captivity. This week, Oded was identified as one of the four deceased hostages released by Hamas.
“Despite putting on a brave face and fighting for hope, the uncertainty has been the most challenging aspect,” Vyvoda remarked. “We had to hold onto hope until the very end.” That end arrived this week when Vyvoda and his family received the devastating news of Oded’s death.
“He was a kind individual who raised a wonderful family,” Vyvoda stated. “I understand the significance of his daughter and what his grandchildren represent.” This marks a tragic conclusion that they had desperately wished to avoid, yet Vyvoda emphasizes that there remains work to be done.
“On one hand, there is a conclusion to the turmoil and suffering our family has endured,” Vyvoda explained. “On the other hand, there are still hostages being held. There is still much to accomplish.” Vyvoda mentioned that his family in Israel is awaiting the return of Oded’s body.
