Nolan Bayer Obituary – The Iowa State Patrol has released the identity of the 13-year-old who tragically lost his life in a UTV (Utility Task Vehicle) accident last week. The victim, Nolan Bayer, aged 13, was a passenger in a Polaris Ranger Crew utility vehicle being driven by an 11-year-old at approximately 5:20 p.m. on Friday. The incident occurred as they were traveling south on 230th Street, attempting to turn onto 450th Avenue southeast of Guernsey. Unfortunately, the driver lost control of the vehicle on a turn, causing it to roll onto its driver’s side into the north ditch.
Regrettably, Bayer succumbed to his injuries sustained in the crash. The 11-year-old driver sustained injuries and was transported to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics via AirCare for medical treatment.
An obituary published by the Holland-Coble Funeral Home revealed that Bayer was born in Cedar Rapids and had recently completed seventh grade at the Lutheran Interparish School in Williamsburg. Described as someone who enjoyed singing and engaging in sports, Bayer was known for his jovial nature and willingness to help others.
“He was a jokester and enjoyed a good laugh, but most of all was a giver, helper and planner,” the obituary stated.
A funeral service is scheduled to take place on Wednesday at St. John’s Lutheran Church south of Victor.
The investigation into the crash is being conducted by the Iowa State Patrol, with assistance from the Poweshiek County Sheriff’s Office, Montezuma Ambulance, Deep River Fire, and the Poweshiek County Medical Examiner.
