Nikko Hill,Michael Trenner Obituary, Death; – Two individuals who lost their lives following a box truck collision with a tree on Thursday in San Joaquin County have been named.
According to authorities, at approximately 12:40 p.m., a two-axle box truck heading south on Interstate 5, just north of Peltier Road, veered off the roadway and collided with a large tree. The incident resulted in the deaths of two residents from Santa Clara: Nikko Hill, aged 30, and Michael Trenner, aged 33.
Reports indicate that the impact caused the right side of the truck’s cab to be severely damaged, extending to the cargo area, which led to the ejection of the right front and rear passengers, despite their apparent use of seat belts, as stated by the California Highway Patrol.
Hill, who occupied the right front seat, was declared dead at the scene. Trenner, seated in the right rear, sustained critical injuries and was transported to a hospital, where he subsequently passed away. The identities of both individuals were confirmed on Sunday by the San Joaquin County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The driver, who sustained minor injuries, reportedly informed law enforcement that he was traveling in the number one lane at a speed of 65 mph. He stated that he switched to the number two lane and inadvertently veered too far, as noted by the CHP’s Stockton office. This maneuver caused the vehicle to drift off the west side of the road, travel along the dirt shoulder for a distance, and ultimately collide with the tree.
Authorities also reported that another passenger, seated behind the driver, incurred significant but non-life-threatening injuries. Preliminary investigations suggest that neither alcohol nor drugs played a role in the accident, according to law enforcement officials.
