Just before noon, a single-engine aircraft operated by Skydive the Falls crashed on the Niagara Scenic Parkway northeast of the Fort Niagara State Park, according to Sheriff Michael Filicetti. According to an inquiry, the plane crashed just as it was about to return to land after dropping off the divers. Melanie Georger, a 26-year-old pilot, perished.
Georger was born and raised in the Town of Tonawanda, her father told 7 News. She attended Kenmore East and went on to the University at Buffalo to earn a bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering. A novice skydiver who went with Georger that morning was interviewed by 7 News.
“She was a young person. Jeff Walker remarked, “She was really pleasant. “She said welcome and asked me if this was my first jump and she said enjoy it and have fun.” Walker claims that he was on the aircraft just prior to its accident.
“This was an unbelievable catastrophe that occurred right after my flight. “It is truly unfortunate that she had to die due to this,” Walker remarked. A brush fire was ignited by the crash. On Saturday, a section of the parkway that leads to Fort Niagara will stay closed. In addition to speaking with witnesses, the sheriff’s office intends to use a drone to get aerial footage of the incident. The NTSB and FAA will look into it.
