News Update: 32-Year-Old Hueytown man Charged With Plotting Murder of Federal Prosecutor
Birmingham, Alabama
-A 32-year-old man from Hueytown was found guilty of making false statements to a federal agent, threatening to kill, and soliciting the murder of a federal prosecutor.
Michael Roman Black was in custody in Hoover in February 2023, according to court documents and other evidence, following the filing of federal charges against him by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Alabama. While incarcerated, Black confided in another prisoner about his scheme to have two pals “on the outside” kill a federal prosecutor who was handling his case. Black disclosed his intended targets in detail and threatened to have them shoot the prosecutor while she was inside her vehicle.
Once the threat was discovered, the murderous scheme was thwarted by the authorities. Black tried to hide his strategy by making fake remarks when questioned by federal authorities.
A federal grand jury in Birmingham returned an indictment against him in March 2023.
Acting United States Attorney Kevin Davidson declared, “A threat against a prosecutor or law enforcement professional is a serious offense and a direct attack against our system of justice.” “I am appreciative of law enforcement’s hard work in discovering and foiling this plot to kill a public servant who was only trying to bring justice to the people of the United States.”
Black faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in federal prison for making threats to kill a federal official, 20 years for encouraging a murder, and 5 years for lying to a federal agent.
On December 12, he will be sentenced.
