News: Car Thief Rescued by Firefighter After Stuck Inside a Bridge Beam In St. Charles
Missouri’s St. Charles Authorities in Missouri claim that a man who was on the run after stealing a car was saved by firefighters from a bridge beam.
On camera, firemen can be seen descending to rescue a guy who became stuck on a beam of the St. Charles Blanchette Bridge.
The man fell on a support beam after jumping over the bridge in the hopes of reaching the water, according to the police. That may be the reason he is still alive today, according to officials.
Charge documents state that it all began when a trooper with the Missouri State Highway Patrol noticed two vehicles—a Honda Accord and a Dodge Challenger—stopping on the bridge at approximately 5:45 a.m. on Sunday.
A man leaped out of the Dodge’s passenger window and into the Honda when the policeman turned on his cruiser’s lights. According to the documents, the trooper pulled his gun and called at the person to stop, but the Honda drove away.
A minute later, another soldier showed up and started after the Honda. The documents say that once the automobile stopped in the far-left lane of the bridge, two men jumped down and vanished.
One of the males, later identified as 21-year-old Dekayo Patterson, was found by the troopers hiding inside one of the bridge beams after they launched a search.
The second man, according to troopers, died after jumping into the sea. He remained anonymous.
To get Patterson to safety, according to the police, the operation changed from a chase to a rescue.
The firefighter who rappelled down the bridge to save Patterson, Aaron Buchanan, said, “He was just asking for help, begging for help, he was terrified.”
In order to save Patterson, Buchanan had to maneuver across the one-foot-wide beam while suspended 70 feet over the lake.
He was pulled from the bridge beam soon after 7 a.m. on Sunday by the St. Charles City Fire Protection District, according to troopers. After that, Patterson was placed under arrest.
“In everything we do, we have integrity and compassion,” Buchanan declared. “At the St. Charles Fire Department, we take great satisfaction in that. We assisted him because I still need to help him.
Charge records indicated that the Dodge and the Honda were both reported stolen by the authorities.
Patterson paid his bond and is due back in court on November 26. He faces charges of felony resisting arrest and first-degree tampering with a motor vehicle.
