SCOTLAND NECK, N.C. (WNCN) — A small pack of wild dogs is troubling a small North Carolina town — attacking chickens and small pets, police say.
The problem emerged about a week ago in the Halifax County town of Scotland Neck, according to the Scotland Neck Police Department.
On Feb. 3, animal control officers spent several hours trying to capture the pack of dogs, police said.
“They’ve been attacking chickens and small pets on the East and West sides of town,” officers said in a news release.
Two days later, the same pack of dogs was spotted again — near Church and 5th streets, police said.

Officers released a photo of the dog that they say is the main troublemaker.
“The lead dog is a pit mix and is highly aggressive, with a history of attacking and killing small animals,” police said.
Officers added, “The lead dog is a huge problem.”

Police pointed out that there are a few stray dogs in the town that are not a problem.
“There are several strays in the area that are harmless. Do not take action unless dogs are actively attacking,” police said.
Police said Scotland Neck residents should keep small pets indoors until the confirmed capture of the main dog.
