Nancy Dowd Obituary, Death; – Authorities apprehended the individual believed to be responsible for the hit-and-run incident that resulted in the death of a 56-year-old woman in Cockrell Hill earlier this month. Miguel Briseno Mendez was arrested on Saturday after returning to North Texas and arriving at Dallas Love Field Airport.
The 24-year-old was subsequently booked into the Dallas County jail and charged with a fatal collision. The tragic event occurred shortly before 7 p.m. on January 2, near the intersection of S. Cockrell Hill Road and Division Street.
According to police reports, Nancy Dowd, aged 56, was struck and killed while attempting to cross the street. An affidavit related to the arrest warrant indicated that the driver of a black pickup truck claimed he did not see Dowd and collided with her while making a right turn.
The driver stopped at the intersection to check on Dowd, who was still alive but injured at that moment. He reported to the police that as he returned to his truck to call 911, a speeding black car passed by, struck Dowd again, ran over her head, and dragged her away. This vehicle did not stop at the scene. Dowd was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
