Mya Maloof Death – Former Nazareth University Ice Hockey Player Mya Maloof of Weedsport, New York has sadly passed away. She died on Friday 11th August 2023 at the age of 23 leaving her beloved family and friends devastated. She was confirmed dead through a publication made on Facebook on Friday. The circumstances surrounding the actual cause of Mya Maloof’s death has not been known at this time. She was born in Syracuse, daughter of Joseph Maloof and Maria Vanetti Maloof.

A graduate of Weedsport High School, Maloof spent four seasons on the varsity field hockey team, making remarkable contributions. Her talents were evident as she earned the prestigious title of first-team Onondaga League all-star in 2017, a year that saw her pivotal role in leading the Warriors to clinch the Section Three Class D title. Beyond her impressive performance on the field, she also held the esteemed positions of team captain and received an honorable mention all-state recognition.
Maloof’s dedication extended beyond her athletic achievements. She exemplified sportsmanship, earning a well-deserved sportsmanship award. Her commitment to both academics and athletics was evident in her attainment of Section Three scholar-athlete honors. Notably, she showcased her versatility by participating in basketball and track, further highlighting her multi-faceted talents.
This culminated in her graduation with the distinction of being ranked third in her class, alongside receiving the esteemed NYS Academic Excellence award. Transitioning to her collegiate journey, Maloof’s prowess continued to shine. In 2019, she emerged as a pivotal player for the Golden Flyers, participating in all 19 games, with 14 of those as a starter. Her impactful performance included a defensive save during Nazareth’s season-ending victory against Utica on October 27, 2018. Her academic excellence was recognized by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association, granting her membership in the National Academic Squad due to her impressive GPA of 3.30 or above.

She is predeceased by maternal grandfather, Michael R. Vanetti (2019) . She is survived by her parents, Joseph and Maria Maloof, brother, Jacob Maloof, boyfriend, Tiernan Konopasek, Maternal grandmother, Carol Vanetti,as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Calling hours will take place Thursday, August 17, 11:00-2:00, at the Keysor-Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home, Cato. A private burial will take place at Meridian Cemetery.
