Mr. Manivannan,Ms. Mahalakshmi Obituary, Death; – The grandparents of a three-month-old infant who tragically lost their lives in a devastating accident on Highway 401 in Whitby were officially identified by the Indian Consulate General through a social media announcement on Friday evening.
The elderly couple, aged 60 and 55, along with their grandchild, were involved in a fatal collision during a police pursuit of a robbery suspect driving the wrong way on Highway 401. The grandparents, who had traveled from India to visit their grandchild, were mourned by the Indian Consulate General in a heartfelt message expressing condolences for the loss of Mr. Manivannan, Ms. Mahalakshmi, and their grandchild in the tragic incident.
The parents of the infant, a 33-year-old father and a 27-year-old mother, survived the crash and were transported to the hospital for treatment. The mother sustained severe injuries, while the father suffered minor injuries.
The collision, which involved multiple vehicles including a semi-trailer, occurred as a U-Haul box van was being pursued by Durham Regional Police in the wrong direction on Highway 401 following a robbery at a Bowmanville LCBO. Tragically, the driver of the cube van also lost their life in the head-on collision, while the other occupant of the vehicle sustained serious injuries.
