Police have announced that the body of missing Te Atatū lady Monica Reid has been found. According to a police statement, the coroner will be consulted, and her death is not being investigated. The woman’s family and loved ones have our deepest sympathy, the police say. Given the significant concerns about the 26-year-old’s wellbeing, who has been missing since Friday afternoon, police began a massive search and rescue operation this morning. “Everyone is unique and amazing in his/her own way,” according to her sister Imogen Trupinic, who has seven siblings.
“Our family is quite big and quite tight. According to a Facebook post by Trupinic, Monica is the family’s youngest member and is twelve years younger than me. She is a planning student and works at the [NZ Transport Agency] Waka Kotahi. She studied Italian and drama in the past. Additionally, Trupinic disclosed that Reid and her fiancé were in the midst of purchasing a home. The result was described as “a tragic conclusion to the search for Monica” by her cousin Gabriel Reid on X. “Her parents and siblings are in my thoughts and prayers,” he uttered.
“Over the past few days, the outpouring of love from the community has been a wonderful comfort. “Deep gratitude to everyone who searched, shared, and voiced concerns. “Several search groups assembled at the Waitematā Rowing Club to serve as a makeshift base during the operation. Police officers from the Police Maritime Unit, detectives, Land SAR (search and rescue), and frontline police were present at the Taikata Sailing Club. According to a photojournalist present at the scene, Henderson Creek was searched by specialized teams using an unmanned aircraft vehicle.
The marine unit searched the shoreline from their vessel, and the police helicopter was also involved in the operation. The drone operations of the specialist search group were now complete. This evening, the police specialist dive team was observed returning to land while an inflatable rescue boat was placed onto a trailer. On the Te Atatū Peninsula, Reid was last observed on Matipo Road. According to a family member, Reid “is a much-loved aunt, sister, and friend.”
