Miguel Angel Sotelo Death – The bicyclist hit and killed has been identified as 63-year-old Miguel Angel Sotelo of Bakersfield by the Kern County Coroner’s Office. On Saturday, May 25, 2024, around 9:14 p.m., officers responded to a crash involving a vehicle and a bicyclist on North Chester Avenue, south of McCord Avenue, as reported by the California Highway Patrol.
Preliminary findings from CHP indicate that a 28-year-old man was driving a 2004 Chevrolet northbound on North Chester Avenue, south of McCord Avenue, at an unspecified speed when Sotelo, without lighting equipment during the hours of darkness, rode his bicycle westbound across North Chester Avenue, directly into the path of the Chevrolet.
The driver of the Chevrolet was unable to avoid the collision and struck Sotelo. Sotelo was transported to Kern Medical, where he passed away the following day.
