Michele Gillis Obituary, Death; – A woman succumbed to her injuries days after her boyfriend allegedly set her ablaze in South Carolina, as reported by the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office. The incident occurred on February 8 at the residence of Michele Gillis, 60, where she lived with her boyfriend, Harry Wolfe.
Authorities stated that Gillis informed deputies she was seated in a chair in the living room when Wolfe entered the home, declaring he was “going to get her.” He then proceeded to douse her with gasoline and ignited her with a match.
Gillis sustained third-degree burns to her upper body and face, as indicated in an arrest warrant. Wolfe confessed to a deputy that he had set Gillis on fire, although he claimed he did not intend to kill her, according to the incident report.
Gillis passed away from her injuries the following Thursday.
Wolfe has been arrested and is currently held in jail without bond, as per authorities. Gillis’s son, Terrance Bottoms, expressed his disappointment regarding the insufficient information provided about the circumstances surrounding his mother’s burning.
“We keep asking investigators, ‘What can you tell us? What happened?’” Bottoms stated. “The only information we had at that time was that he called my aunt and said he lit my mother on fire. We did not receive a complete account of the events until the news reports emerged.”
Chief Deputy Chandra Gibbs noted that the agency is treating the investigation as a case of domestic violence. According to the incident report, Gillis had previously alleged that Wolfe had been physically abusive. Bottoms conveyed a message to those experiencing domestic violence.
“One incident is too many because if he did that to my mother, he must have been physically abusive at some point,” he remarked.
