Michael Shope Obituary, Death; – A man from North Carolina, who had been reported missing along with his daughter, has died following an altercation with a deputy, as stated by the Haywood County Sheriff’s Office.
On Friday, deputies were dispatched to investigate a report of a suspicious individual near the Harmon Den horse camp. Upon their arrival, the officers identified the individual as 42-year-old Michael Shope, who had been missing since December 3, along with his daughter.
According to investigators, Shope was armed with a knife and engaged in an attack on the deputy, who subsequently discharged his weapon in self-defense. Emergency medical services were called to the scene, where Shope was pronounced dead.
No additional information regarding the condition of the girl has been released. Reports indicate that the pair was seen outside the state the previous week. The North Carolina Department of Public Services has suggested that Shope may have been undergoing a mental health crisis.
